ESSC has a commitment to be a major information resource in terms of Philippine forest cover figures.

In 1999, ESSC published Decline of the Philippine Forest and is still widely used as a reference for Philippine forest cover figures. Government's official forest cover study was done in 1987 and followed with a 2003 study

In 2010, ESSC also released online the results of the Philippine forest cover update for the period 2001-2002.

The forest cover maps are available, with a comprehensive analysis by Pedro Walpole.
