In March 2008, ESSC was requested to develop an online map that illustrates the occupation of the Spratly Islands since 1996, in partnership with Inquirer.net.

The online map can still be viewed and shows the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea and their claimants. The Philippine State boundary, the area covered by the Tripartite Agreement for Joint Marine Seismic Undertaking and the Malampaya Deep Water Gas to Power project are also shown. The ESSC staff who developed the map were Jose Andres Ignacio, Myra Colis, and Ariel Amor.
