Daily plenary sessions and partner events, featuring keynote speakers and sector leaders, will focus on the following topics: forest governance, climate change, forest policy, forestry education, community forestry, ecosystem services, International Year of Forests, future of forestry, REDD+, forestry research, biodiversity, poverty alleviation, resource assessment, green economy, communicating forestry, forest invasive species, national forest programs, non-wood forest products, and forest transitions.
Asia Forest Network (AFN), a partner of ESSC, is providing assistance in a partner event "Making forestry work for the poor" that will present the results of 11 country case studies in the Asia-Pacific region that assessed the forestry contribution in poverty alleviation in the respective countries. These countries include Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. AFN facilitated the country case study preparations with the country consultants and responsible government forestry agencies. The initial regional workshop last March 2011 in Chiang Mai, Thailand discussed the country case study guidelines and processes. The second Asia-Pacific Forestry week will be held at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing, China from 7 to 11 November 2011. For more information, please visit the event's website |

The second Asia-Pacific Forestry Week 2011 will bring together around 1,500 delegates representing various organizations contributing to forests and forestry in the region with the theme "New Challenges, New Opportunities."
