| On mining negotiations in the Philippines |

ESSC shares the second part of an interview in December 2007 wherein Pedro Walpole, ESSC Executive Director, focused on what needs to happen to facilitate more equitable and open negotiation processes between mining companies and indigenous groups in the Philippine context. The first part of the interview was on the situation of indigenous peoples and mining in the Philippines.
Interviewing Pedro was Dr Sango Mahanty, Research and Teaching Fellow with the Resource and Management in Asia-Pacific Program, Crawford School of Economics and Government, The Australian National University in Canberra, Australia.
Sango has a background in Human Geography and Development Studies and has worked on the social and political dimensions of resource management and development in teaching, research and professional advisory roles in a range of organizations in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Sango's country experience covers the Mekong region, India, and the Pacific. She currently coordinates the Master of Applied Anthropology and Participatory Development, for which she teaches two related courses on Resource Management and Indigenous Peoples and Mining and Indigenous Peoples. |
