After a long process of coordination and advocacy, Apu Palamguwan Cultural Education Center (APC) gained formal recognition from the Department of Education in 2004 as the first culture-based school for Indigenous Peoples.

Homeless People's Federation Philippines (HPFPI)

hpfpilogo.jpgThe Homeless People's Federation Philippines (HPFPI) is a nationwide network of 200 urban poor community associations and savings groups spanning all over the three major regions in the Philippines, namely Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. It aspires for secure tenure, decent living, emancipation from poverty and protection of their dignity and rights as citizens of their cities. HPFPI was formally established as a federation in September 1998, though activities started in 1992 with support from the Vincentian Missionaries. A key priority for the HPFPI is to provide assistance to communities living in high-risk areas such as river banks, dumpsites, highways, rail tracks, shorelines, under the bridge, and those displaced by the city's major infrastructure projects.

We recruit volunteers who wish to serve from 6 months to 3 years in projects overseas. 

Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP)

JCAP logoThe Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific is one of six Conferences that coordinate and facilitate the mission of the Jesuits around the world. Covering Jesuit life and service in China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, and the countries of the Pacific notably Micronesia, JCAP serves to help bring an international perspective to and on local initiatives. The vision and scope of the Conference has widened to include a greater role in Society governance and leadership in facing new ‘frontiers.' Today about a dozen coordinators remain in their own ministry bases in various countries, while carrying additional international responsibilities as secretaries for their apostolic sectors.

Quiapo Church Disaster Management Ministry

Quiapo DMM logoThe Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene of Saint John the Baptist (popularly known as Quiapo Church) recognizes the need for a resource center for disaster risk reduction with three components: science, information and technology, and training and mobilization of parish organization and deputized parish volunteers. This is now being pursued through its Disaster Management Ministry to provide the systems and technology available to understand the vulnerabilities in various dioceses in the Philippines and gather speedy information during disasters using satellite images and other data already available.

UN Food and Agriculture Organization-Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (FAO-RAP)

Sustainable Urban Development Section, UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)

ESCAP logo.ESCAP established the Sustainable Urban Development Unit (SUDU) in the Environment and Development Division on 15 October 2008. The Unit aims to serve as the regional hub of rich and diverse ideas, policy options, practices and south-south cooperation to achieve inclusive and sustainable development of urban areas in Asia and the Pacific. The substantive focus of SUDU's work is on the nexus between environment and poverty in urban areas of Asia and the Pacific. While all projects and initiatives integrate both aspects, some have a stronger focus on poverty reduction and others on improving the urban environment and dealing with the effects of climate change. Much of SUDU's work is geared towards secondary cities and small towns (populations of less than 1 million) as they mostly lack the human, institutional, political and financial resources and are therefore the least prepared to cope with the dual challenge of poverty and climate change. SUDU's initiatives follow a multi-year programmatic approach that build upon the inter-disciplinary strengths of ESCAP and seek to strengthen partnerships in the region, within and outside the UN System.
